Fossil, like other Android Wear OEMs, gets the Android Wear 2.0 update now that Google has debuted the update with its newest smartwatches in partnership with LG: the 4G LTE-capable, ruggedized LG Watch Sport and the more stylish LG Watch Style. Since Android Wear 2.0 has arrived to the market, the next question comes regarding OEMs and when users of OEM devices can expect the newest wearable update to land. Fossil has finally spoken on the matter, stating that AW 2.0 will land on all its smartwatches (not some, but all) this month, “mid-March.”
The answer came by way of an interested Q Founder customer who queried Fossil as to when the very first Android Wear smartwatch would receive the new 2.0 update. Fossil’s response? “The update is expected to be released in mid March to all of our devices.” Thanks to Fossil, interested customers no longer have to wonder. All Fossil smartwatches, including the Q Founder but also extended to the Q Marshal and Q Wander, will receive AW 2.0. Not one Fossil smartwatch will be left behind.
Android Wear 2.0 contains features such as standalone apps that’ll free users from their smartphones, an on-screen keyboard, Smart Reply, and watchface customizations. The goal of the new update is to make Android Wear more functional and more appealing, considering the fact that not one Android Wear OEM has yet to make it in the top 5 smartwatch vendors list by the IDC in the most recent quarter except Motorola, who has walked away from the smartwatch market for now.
