The Gear S2 Classic has been an experiment for Samsung that has shown the Korean giant that users want a premium, luxury smartwatch that can work for formal occasions. One thing to love about Samsung is that they designed a "Sport" model (it wasn't named this but it serves as the more sporty of the two Gear S2 models) alongside of a more premium Classic model.
The Gear S2 Classic was such a success that Samsung has decided to proceed with an updated 2016 version of the Classic. A new trademark filing has been uncovered that was filed by the Korean giant and shows Samsung trademarking the moniker "Gear S3 Classic." The moniker trademark was filed on August 5th, 2016 and shows only "S3 Classic" filed. Apparently, Samsung didn't see the need to add "Gear" to the trademark -- likely because "Gear" is such a generic word with regard to mobile devices that it's impossible to patent. This seems to be no different than trademarking the term "Galaxy Note 7" instead of "Note 7" because other OEMs have used the word "Note" in their phone monikers.
The Gear S3 Classic will be a follow-up to the Gear S2 Classic Samsung announced at IFA 2015 last September. We don't know what the Gear S3 Classic has in store, but we can say that the Gear S3 Classic will borrow heavy inspiration from its older sibling, the Gear S2 Classic: the device will sport a Super AMOLED display, bring back the rotating bezel and Rotary UI, and borrow much of the same, premium materials we've seen used in the Gear S2 Classic. Even better, the Gear S3 Classic will come with the remote eSIM automatically, letting users transfer carriers for cellular data on the go without having to purchase the smartwatch from one carrier and then pay another $300 to buy it from another when switching carriers. Keep in mind that you'll have to buy the device unlocked to experience the remote eSIM power, however.
Currently, the Gear S2 Classic has seen a few sweet deals that are only going to grow from here on out, as the device passes the year-old mark.
Well, the comfort in all this is that we know the Gear S3 Classic is on the way, along witWe know that Samsung will have at least three Gear S3 smartwatches available, a Gear S3 (Sport), Gear S3 Classic, and a ruggedized Gear S3 Frontier, at IFA 2016 in Berlin, Germany next month, though Samsung always has a good surprise or two in-store.
