The Pebble Time Round smartwatch from Pebble receives a lot of attention in the press, but not every consumer wants a circular smartwatch. Sometimes in talking to my friends who are of the "circular" persuasion, it's as though they've forgotten that square watches were "the" form factor before the circle showed up and challenged the idea of the "mini-computer shape."
I disagree with my "circular" friends, of course, but it should be known that companies such as Pebble aren't trying to push the circular form factor on everyone. Instead, the company has been polishing its smartwatch line, having released the original Pebble (now called Pebble Classic), then the Pebble Steel, the Pebble Time, Pebble Time Steel, and then the Pebble Time Round smartwatches (with metal bands). Pebble has now gone on to introduce the Pebble Time Round Special Edition in Polished Gold and Polished Silver models -- which many would argue is a huge step up from what some would see as the plastic designs prior to now.
Well, you may not want these newer models, and you may not want the Pebble 2, but you can take advantage of Groupon's Pebble Time sale. The online retailer is selling the Pebble Time smartwatch (the square, not the round) for just $89.99. For $90, you're getting a watch that provides a color e-ink display with LED backlight, battery life of up to 10 days, a 20mm leather strap, 2.5D glass display, stainless steel bezel, 30m water resistance, and the usual capabilities: notifications (including emails, texts, calendar, and calls), and so on.
You can take advantage of this Groupon deal, but keep in mind that the Pebble 2, the company's latest smartwatch featuring Pebble Health and the company's most up-to-date support, is just $10 more at $99. The Pebble 2's only disadvantage right now is that the smartwatch is on Kickstarter. You can get the Pebble Time now, but you could always wait and pay $10 extra for the latest.
Hurry up! The deal ends in 29 hours and 35 minutes.
