The Huawei Watch has now tasted of Google's latest sweet treat. According to Chinese smartphone and smartwatch maker Huawei, the beloved Android Wear smartwatch is now receiving its anticipated Android Marshmallow update to Android Wear version 1.4. According to the company's own statement, "The Huawei Watch update will be version 6.0, release MEC23L. This will be an OTA due for release beginning today."
The Android Marshmallow update for the Huawei Watch brings the long-rumored speaker support we mentioned some time ago, though the Android version is 6.0 Marshmallow instead of the 6.0.1 Marshmallow build we heard about some time ago. Of course, one may think that the distance between 6.0 and 6.0.1 is small, but the smartphone update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow brings over 200 new emoji to the Android experience. A speaker-enabled Huawei Watch will allow you to take calls from your Bluetooth-only model, with no word in sight as to whether or not a cellular model will emerge. Of course, LG has said that its Watch Urbane LTE, Second Edition cellular-connected smartwatch will re-emerge on the market by year's end. We've not heard word on whether or not other cellular-connected smartwatches running Android Wear will arrive before LG's does, but Google I/O 2016 should present some interesting events.
