The Huawei Watch is one of the most talked-about Android Wear smartwatches, and with good reason: it has the finesse that the Asus Zenwatch 2 could only dream of having, not to mention that Huawei has now created women’s watches as well (Watch Jewel and Watch Elegant). Huawei wants to inspire brand pride, so much so that the Chinese manufacturer wants you to pick up a Huawei Nexus 6P to go along with your Huawei Watch – and that, if you haven’t picked either up yet, you’d take time in this new year to get both in January and start the year off right.
To this end, Google is now doing what it did over the holidays: discount the Huawei Watch by $50. Unfortunately, the new Huawei Watch deal comes with two conditions. First, you must purchase a Nexus 6P, regardless of 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB configuration. Next, you’ll get a promo code (after the Nexus 6P purchase) that you must use by September 1, 2016. This means that you don’t have to buy the Huawei Watch immediately after or with the Nexus 6P, but you do have to make a decision by summer’s end. Depending on what Google shows us regarding Android Wear at this year’s Google I/O 2016 conference, you may want to wait until August 31st to make your decision.
You may also want to wait because, when the Huawei Watch price drops, the $50 credit will only sweeten the deal further. The deal is only valid for US and Canada customers, however, so international customers will once again have to fork over full retail price for both the Nexus 6P and Huawei Watch.
Google seems to be promoting this deal to get consumers to buy a Nexus 6P rather than concern themselves with a Huawei Watch, but this may be a sweet deal for those who are really into Huawei and what they’re doing in the mobile space. At the same time, however, we’d like to see Google promote Android Wear more and start giving more discounts on the Huawei Watch – and Android Wear as a whole.
