AT&T customers are getting ready to pre-order their Gear S2 smartwatches, but those who went ahead and purchased the watch at full price (the Bluetooth Standard model) from Amazon, Best Buy, or some other online or in-store retailer will be pleased to know that they’re getting an update – US Gear S2 buyers, that is.
The latest information we have pertains to the new update sent out about 6 days ago, for Gear S2 Standard users. This update does not apply to Gear S2 Classic buyers, nor does it apply to Gear S2 3G models (even though 3G models for Samsung’s latest smartwatch have not yet gone live in the US). The firmware update number for Gear S2 Standard buyers (Bluetooth-only model) is R720XXU2AOJ3, and is intended for both “performance and stability improvements.”
If you have yet to download your update, US Gear S2 Standard customers, head on over to the “software update” settings on your smartwatch (head into “Settings,” then “About Gear”) and see if a tap or two can’t get the update started. If you’ve already received your update or an update you think is this one, you can always go to your “About Gear” settings and check the firmware build number to see if it matches the one we’ve announced here.
If you’ve updated already, what do you think? Have you noticed any improvements in battery life, overall endurance, and smoother performance? Have you noticed the arrival of some new problems since the update? Let us know.
