Samsung's Gear Fit2 (yes, the word "fit" and number "2" will appear close together for official marketing purposes) has appeared in a few photos as well as from insider tips, but the device's manual, made possible for viewing by Samsung, removes all doubt as to what the Korean giant is up to next.
The Gear Fit2 manual is a 62-page manual consisting of everything from the model number (SM-R360) to the Table of Contents, which tells consumers all they need to know. A simple glance shows that you can track your water and caffeine intake, as well as store music, keep an exercise log, keep track of notifications and phone calls, make and receive phone calls, check your heart rate, set a stopwatch, find your phone, and manage your health apps downloaded on to the device. Yes, the Gear Fit2 is similar to the first-generation Gear Fit in that it also requires Bluetooth pairing with your Samsung smartphone to function and manages your heart rate and other health statistics. You can even change watchfaces on the device (with Samsung using the words "watch faces," you can tell just how hard it is for most consumers to distinguish between fitness trackers and smartwatches, design excepted).
Samsung has taken steps to refine the charging process, with the Korean giant using a new prong charger by which to charge the device instead of setting it up to have wireless charging like the Gear S2. The Gear S2's wireless charging pad doesn't require you to set the prongs on the back of the device in an exact position as is the case with the upcoming Gear Fit2: with the Gear S2, you need only sit the watch down on the pad and it starts charging immediately.
The specs have changed little, though we have more specs to introduce to you now than we did a few days ago: the Gear Fit2 features a 1.84-inch, Super AMOLED display, IP68 water and dust resistance, and 4GB of storage. We're likely looking at 512MB of RAM here, since Samsung implemented 512MB of RAM in the first Gear Fit but didn't up the storage with the Gear Fit2 as opposed to the first-generation model. As for the fitness tracker manual, you can check out the Gear Fit2 manual below (it's the PDF file with a blue hyperlink).
As for the reveal time, Korea says that we can expect the Gear Fit2 to arrive next month (June), though no specific date is available at this time. Though we're excited to see the Gear Fit2 prepping for its market entrance, we're still wondering where the truly budget-friendly Samsung Triathlon fitness tracker is.
