When you think of fitness trackers, what comes to mind? Most likely, you associate them with tracking distance, calories, water intake, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and reliability with your fitness data. According to a new confirmation, though, the Fitbit Surge, one of the most popular fitness trackers on the market, your fitness tracker can add one more feature to its list: pregnancy detection.
That’s what happened at the Fitbit Reddit thread when a member posted that his wife’s Fitbit Surge had been acting erratic over the last few days. “My wife’s fitbit is showing her heartbeat being consistently high over the last few days. 2 days ago, a somewhat normal day, she logged 10 hours in the fat burning zone, which I would think to be impossible based on her activity level. Also her calories burned do seem accurate…I’m not sure if something is wrong with the sensor. Is there a way to reset or recalibrate the device? Id like to try that before I contact customer service about a possible replacement,” he posted.
“Has she experienced anything really stressful in the last few days or is it a possibility she is pregnant?” Reddit member Thatwasunpleasant wrote. The wife’s husband wrote back the following day, saying “I’m going to be a dad!,” with thatwasunpleasant saying that “I was right! Holy crap, a reddit first for me! Congratulations!”
So, it just goes to show you that the Fitbit Surge has some magical powers. It could be the case that, no matter the fitness tracker, pregnancy tracking may become a new feature for fitness trackers and smartwatches – another relevant feature that just may contribute to wearables’ growing popularity in the coming days and months.
