BLOCKS, a company based in London, UK, has been working hard to break a new field in smartwatch tech with its modular smartwatch. The company originally promised its modular smartwatch would ship out in May 2016, but it's one month later and still, not BLOCKS smartwatch.
Well, we have good news: turns out that the new BLOCKS modular smartwatch is ready for pre-order. The company now has the modular smartwatch site up and running for anyone who's been waiting to dive into a device that is definitely making history. The upcoming BLOCKS smartwatch features an AMOLED display with a 400 x 400p screen resolution, with AMOLED technology and a bright screen resolution giving you luscious, vibrant colors on your wrist. The modular smartwatch features water and dust resistance, with element protection in tow. Gorilla Glass will help ensure your modular smartwatch has protection from drops, falls, and bumps against doors and walls, among other things. You can view photos of the modular smartwatch and a small preview video below.
Qualcomm's latest and greatest Snapdragon 2100 Wear processor is on board, so you're sure to have the better battery efficiency and performance that this designed-for-wearables processor can give. The core of the modular smartwatch is stainless steel, as to be expected, with iOS and Android compatibility. The most important part for the more tech enthusiastic among us is that the BLOCKS modular smartwatch comes with your choice of 4 modules (included in the price); additional modules will cost $35 each. There are six modules to choose from: 1) GPS, 2) Heart Rate Sensor, 3) Extra Battery, 4) Environment Sensor, 5) Flashlight, and 6) Programmable Button. The device will cost $341, and that includes the price of the first 4 modules for the watch. If it were up to me, I'd go with the extra battery, GPS, heart rate sensor, and programmable button for my first 4 free modules. Getting two extra battery modules sounds tempting though, doesn't it?
All pre-orders of the BLOCKS modular smartwatch will ship by October 2016. It'll cost $15 for shipping and handling worldwide, whereas American customers will pay only $11 for shipping costs.
