The Gear S2 from Samsung is the best smartwatch from a renown manufacturer out there, and it makes Android Wear a difficult place to be when customers are choosing between the well-known manufacturers (which includes Samsung, LG, and Apple, among others). AT&T has already shown great affection toward the Gear S2 smartwatch, using Samsung’s latest wrist wearable to debut its new NumberSync program that lets you use one phone number for all your mobile devices (irrespective of the number of mobile devices you have). Now, AT&T has decided, no doubt due to the popularity of the Gear S2, to resurrect its old deal regarding the Korean maker’s smartwatch.
What is the Gear S2 deal AT&T is offering? The same one it offered before Christmas: if you purchase any Galaxy smartphone (current ones offered in stock, that is), AT&T will give you a Gear S2 smartwatch for free. We’re assuming here that you’ll actually have to pay the small $10 a month for NumberSync for the Gear S2, since yore looking at the 3G cellular-connected model here.
If you’re one of the hundreds of customers that buys Bluetooth everything, then you can get a brand new Gear S2 for free. You’ll walk out of the store having paid for your smartphone only and, with no 3G service to cover for your Bluetooth-tethered device, won’t have to worry about a monthly bill behind Samsung’s latest.
Of course, it goes without saying that this deal brings a $700+ bill for your Galaxy smartphone of choice, but Samsung has also done deals in the US with carriers and retailers (such as Best Buy) that gave customers a free $99 Gear VR headset with the purchase of a Gear VR-compatible smartphone. Samsung and AT&T have a love relationship, with Samsung’s Galaxy S Active smartphone lineup being an AT&T exclusive worldwide, too.
AT&T’s decision to partner with Samsung to market the Gear S2 is commendable, and we’re sure that customers will love the most intuitive smartwatch on the market. We’re aware that, yes, paying $700 to get $350 off may not be appealing to most people, but you’re only paying $700 or $800 instead of $1000 or $1150 (depending on the phone price plus the Gear S2 retail price, which is now more affordable than at its market entrance). AT&T’s new “buy two for the price of 1” deal will also prove to be popular for employers and employees who want to stay brushed up on the high-tech life while remaining committed to productivity in the workplace.
Instead of waiting for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, why not jump in the game now and grab a Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ or Note 5 and get a Gear S2? It’s about time, don’t you think?
