ASUS just pushed out an update for its ZenWatch 2 around six weeks ago, and we know for a fact that the ZenWatch 2 will see the Android Wear 2.0 update. The Asus ZenWatch has a fantastic price at $150 (and perhaps even lower considering the deals for Android Wear on the Web), but it's square, not round in shape. Android Wear 2.0 seems to have an emphasis on round smartwatches, and the company known for its square ZenWatch models with "squircular" (a combination of "square" and "circular") corners is now getting with the round revolution. Yes, the ASUS ZenWatch 3 has been spotted at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with round casing.
The FCC appearance was spotted by leakster Roland Quandt, who, though not as famous as say, Evan Blass (who you'd know as @evleaks) still has his share of excellent leaks from time to time. Quandt tweeted earlier today: "New ASUS ZenWatch 3 W1503Q with stainless steel body, customizable keys, ROUND casing and quick 10W-charging at FCC." The photo beneath the statement shows a circular shape, with the ASUSTek name (this is ASUS's full company name, for those who are wondering), along with the name of the upcoming Android Wear smartwatch, "ASUS ZenWatch 3." This tells us that ASUS intends to release a third-generation smartwatch, rather than provide a mere refreshed to the ZenWatch 2.
The ASUS ZenWatch 3 will have stainless steel round casing, so we're looking at a premium smartwatch here. The current ZenWatch 2 and the first-generation ZenWatch were priced competitively at $150 (the possible HTC smartwatch should match this pricing if it comes to market), but we don't have a confirmed price for the ZenWatch 3 as of yet. It's possible that the price could jump from where it is now, though we'll have to wait for ASUS to confirm that.
Are you a current ZenWatch 2 or first-gen. ZenWatch owner? Are you excited to see the ZenWatch 3? Planning on picking it up when it lands?
